Susie Harwood married Charles J. White in Evansville, Indiana on June 10th, 1874. She had been a seamstress there, making costumes for actors and actresses. When she arrived in Sutter County with her new husband, Charles, she went into business with Mrs. Brittan in Marysville doing dressmaking. Among other things, she made John L. Sullivan's shirts.
Susie and Charles raised a family of six daughters and one son. The son, Eugene, died at a very young age and is buried next to them in the Yuba City Cemetery, in Sutter County, CA,
After a lingering illness of many months duration, Mrs. Charles White passed away at the young age of 44. Besides her husband, she left to mourn her death six daughters: Annie, Hattie, Mary, Alice, Ruth and Bernice.
She was much loved and respected by all and was a good Christian woman, a true wife and kind mother.
