Catherine was the youngest of seven children born to George Philipp Gutmann and Katharine Louise Wenzel. Along with her parents and siblings, she immigrated to the United States in 1884 on board the passenger ship Westphalia. On 27 Jul 1911 she married George Frederick Becker and they had six children: Catherine, Henrietta, Mary, Elizabeth, George and John. Catherine died of a cerebral thrombosis at Mallory-Taylor Hospital at the age of 75.
