Katharina was the daughter of Johan Georg Wenzel and Katharina Margarethe Von Gedden Wiessler. About 1865 she married George Philipp Gutmann and they had seven children: George, Henry, Phillip, Mary, Carl, Louise and Catherine. In 1884 the family immigrated to the US on board the passenger ship Westphalia. After arriving in New York City the family first settled in Kansas before moving to Louisville, KY, sometime prior to 1890. Katharina died of paralysis agitano (Parkinson's Disease) at the age of 81.
