Dover-Foxcroft - Florence Mae Crabtree, 88, wife of the late Edmund H. Crabtree, died Sept. 9, 1997, at a local hospital after a brief illness. She was born Jan. 20, 1909, in Dover-Foxcroft, second of three children of Arthur W. and Elva (White) Merrill. Her brother, Orrin H. Merrill, Sr. and her sister, Marion E. and husband, Harold E. Smith, predeceased her. A lifelong member of Bethel Advent Christian Church, she had served as a Sunday School teacher, deaconess, and was active in the Woman's Home and Foreign Mission Society. She also belonged to the Pine Needle Christmas Club of Dover South Mills.
She was a wonderful cook and homemaker, and a creator of many patchwork quilts. Her sense of humor stayed with her to the end. After the death of her husband of 35 years, she cared for her parents in their home for 12 years. She enjoyed spending summers at "Lakeside" in Belgrade and at Alton Bay, N.H.
