He was a native of Glennville and a member of Glennville First Baptist Church since 1939. He was a charter member of Glennville Lions Club, Glennville Development Association, the Tattnall County School Board, Glennville Housing Authority, a member of the Advisory Board of the Small Business Administration, Atlanta Commerce Club, the Chatham Club in Savannah, the Elks Club, a Mason and the Alee Temple.
He was president of Glennville Bank from 1952-1974. He served as chairman of the board from 1974-1990 and was serving as director emeritus at the time of his death. He was an Army veteran and the widower of Lynette Durrence Bacon.
SURVIVORS: two daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Loy Blocker of Glennville and Joanie and Lonnie Calhoun of Reidsville; a granddaughter, Stephanie Blocker Bowen of Glennville; four grandsons, Stephen Blocker and Stacy Blocker, both of Glenville, Kelly Calhoun of Statesboro and John Calhoun of Reidsville; two great-granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews.
