Funeral services for Aleva Ruth (Hewitt) Reitz of Fremont, Nebraska, will be Friday, June 14, 2002, at the United Methodist Church in Dunlap at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Sue-Ellen Sherman will officiate the services. Musician will be Fran Klein and Mike Bonsall will serve as vocalist.

Burial will be made at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap. Casket bearers will be Fritz Baldwin, Kenny Dwyer, Khristian Hewitt, Jeffery Isom, Talon Isom and Gary McDonald.

The family will be receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 13, at Fouts Funeral Home in Dunlap.

Aleva Ruth (Hewitt) Reitz, 88, formerly of Dunlap died Monday, June 10, 2002, at Arbor Manor Living Center in Fremont, Nebraska.

Ruth was born January 9, 1914, to parents, Ziba Clifford and Minnie Aleva (Fouts) Nurse on their farm north of Dunlap. She attended the Nurse Country School near her home through sixth grade. She then rode her horse six years to Dunlap High School for grades seven through twelve. She graduated from Dunlap High School in 1931.

On October 17, 1932, Ruth was united in marriage to Paul Cooper Hewitt. The couple moved to Paramount, Calif., where Ruth worked in a hat factory and Paul worked as a mechanic. They later moved back to Iowa to the towns of Manning, Ida Grove, Grinnell and Dunlap where Paul worked or owned his own body shop in Dunlap. At this time, their children, Robert Keith and Audrey Ruth were born. They returned to California during the early 1940's where Paul worked as a welder foreman on the transports being built in the shipyards. They later farmed at Logan and north of Dunlap. They moved into Dunlap in 1948. Their third child, Larry Paul, was born in 1950. Ruth worked for several businesses in Dunlap over the years.

On October 6, 1966, Paul died at the age of 56 years. Ruth attended secretarial school after Larry graduated from high school. She then worked as a secretary in Denison for five years. She married Kenneth Harbaugh on November 7, 1972. Ken died 18 months later. Ken and Ruth spent short winter vacations in Texas. Ruth continued to spend the winter months in Texas after she retired. In Alamo, Texas, she owned her own mobile home in a retirement park and drove back for the summer months.

ON December 21, 1982, she married Jacob Reitz. Jake died May 13, 1991. Ruth spent 27 years in Texas but returned to Nebraska in February of 2001 to be near her children.

Ruth loved horseback riding and had a large horse collection. She also enjoyed dancing, camping, playing pool, and bowling. She liked styling hair, gardening, canning, cooking and caring for her family. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Donna, Texas. Ruth enjoyed the fellowship of the church's singles' group through which she met many wonderful friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husbands and one grandson, David Robert Hewitt.

She is survived by her three children, Robert Hewitt of Alamo, Texas, Audrey Gage and her husband George of Arlington, Nebraska, and Larry Hewitt and his wife Nancy of Gretna, Nebraska; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
