Mrs. Dorothy J. "Dot" Brandon, 77, of Rome, passed away Saturday morning, January 29, 2011.

Mrs. Brandon was born on May 12, 1933, in Vardaman, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Stanford Hamby and Anne Ellenburg Hamby. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brandon was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James Brandon, and by a granddaughter, Judith Lynn "JaJay" Hill.

Mrs. Brandon had resided in West Rome for the last 51 years and was a member of the former Redmond Road Church of Christ. She had served as a volunteer (Gray Lady) at Floyd Medical Center and was a longtime seamstress for The Wedding Bell. She enjoyed gardening and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her four children, Donnie Hill, Helena, Alabama, Jerry (Phyllis) Hill, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Susan (Dave) Ganser, Decatur, and Steve (Sharon) Brandon, Dalton; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2011, at the Griffin Memorial Chapel of Daniel's Funeral Home with Minister Rob Harbison and Chaplain Alan Fuller officiating. Interment will be in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Daniel's Funeral Home on Monday, January 31, 2011, from 6 until 8 p.m.
