NEW MARKET - Ruth Lorene Seekford Whetzel, 87, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at the Consulate Health Care in Woodstock.

Mrs. Whetzel was born on Dec. 27, 1921, in Luray, and was a daughter of the late Solon Alger and Lena Burns.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ, Page County.

She is survived by her husband, Willard A. Whetzel, a daughter, Doris Ann Seekford and a sister Maxine Wine both of New Market; a granddaughter, Olivia Gillespie of Broadway, three grandsons; Mitchell Bo Stroop of New Market, D.J. Collins of Timberville, E.G. Seekford of Mount Jackson; nine great-grandchildren.

The funeral and burial were private.
Memorial contributions may be made to the New Market Fire Department, 9771 South Congress St., New Market, Va. 22844.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Valley Funeral Service in Edinburg.
