The family made their home in Mobile, AL at the time but the Yeates ties was in Oktibbeha, MS for the most part.
On October 8, 1894 in Oktibbeha, MS she married Elijah Graves Chandler, who was 16 years her senior.
After they married Ruthie & Elijah appear in the 1900 Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama census living in a boarding house owned by P.K. Miller and his wife. Elijah gives his occupation as a manager, Ruth had no occuptation.
They had no children.
In the 1910 and 1920 censuses they are still in Birmingham but now they own their home. There are still no children for the couple and Ruth still shows no occuptation. Ruth laid Elijah to rest in 1922 at the age of 62.
The SS ATENAS sailing from Cristobal, C.Z. arriving at the Port of New Orleans, LA on Feb 15th, 1924 had the 10th United States Citizen boarding the ship as Ruth Chandler age 47, f, m, born Jan 24, 1876 Mobile AL-present address Birmingham, AL. She should have been listed as a widow but instead she give married for martial status, maybe for safety precautions due to traveling w/o a male companion?
In the1941 US City Directory Birmingham, Alabama Chandler, Ruth Y (wid Elijah G) music teacher, 1920 12th Ave S apt B2 h do; looks as if she has sold her home with Elijah and moved into an apt.
