Not much is known about Jefferson at this time. In 1883, he is working for a farmer near Raymond, Clark County, SD. In 1884 and 1885, he is working on the family farm near Royalton, WI. In 1888, he is working at a location (unidentified) where the snow is very deep and the temperature dropped so low that 30 men froze (it doesn't say if any died). He died in Hector, Renville County, MN in 1893. The family believed there were some unanswered questions about his death. He may be buried in or near Hector, MN, or his body was brought back to Royalton, WI for burial.
