Schmitz, Josephine Of Fair Oaks, CA, passed peacefully on October 23, 2010 at the age of 100, at the home of her daughter where she lived the last 5 years. Born on March 7, 1910, to Benjamin & Abigail Gayton White, on the Standing Rock Sioux Indian Reservation, Fort Yates, ND. Josephine, aka Totowin, graduated Salutatorian, moved to Fargo, ND, to attend business college and then to Minneapolis, MN where she worked modeling hats, office file clerk, and live-in nanny. There she met and married Clement Schmitz of Dumont, MN and they had children, Joan, Clem Jr. and Raymond. Josephine, known as "Aunt Jo" touched everyone around her with wit, energy, caring, compassion and love. An adoring mother and grandmother to David Schmitz and William Burcell, she was a dedicated friend, a strong example of optimism and kindness and was truly a generous spirit. She will deeply missed by her family and remain in our hearts forevermore. Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Clem; and her son, Raymond. Visitation 11 AM-12 noon, Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, followed by a prayer service at the chapel of Gethesemane Cemetery, 8151 42nd Ave No., New Hope, MN 55427. Cremation Interment will follow.
