Services for Viva Dean Baker, 79, life-long resident of Wagoner, were at 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at the First Christian Church in Wagoner, where she was a long-time member, with the Rev. Carl Tinnea officiating. Viva Dean was born Oct. 13, 1927 in Wagoner to Grover and Velma M. (Cothrun) Sullivan. She graduated from Wagoner High School in 1945, and later graduated from the Draughn Business College. In 1945, Viva Dean was married to Elmer Lee Coates, who died in 1947. She began her working career at Commercial Bank in Muskogee. In 1949, she met and married Verble Baker, a union lasting 53 years. She and Verble worked together practically every day for more than 50 years at their well-known Baker's Restaurant until their retirement in 1990. She died on Friday, June 22, 2007 at the SouthCrest Hospital in Tulsa. Viva Dean was preceded in death by: her parents; her first husband, Elmer Lee Coates; her brothers-in-law, Thurman McDaniel, Kenneth Wilkey and Jerry Day; and by her husband, Verble N. Baker. She is survived by: her two sons, Larry Coates and his wife, Becky of Wagoner and Jimmy Baker also of Wagoner; two brothers, Vernon Sullivan and his wife, Eunice of Wagoner and Franklin Sullivan and his wife, Karen of Sapulpa; four sisters, Luella Fisher, Mary Day, Dorothy McDaniel and Joyce Wilkey Lemley and her husband, Phil, all of Wagoner; three grandsons, Alex and Carson Baker and Eric Coates; numerous nieces and nephews;other relatives and many friends. Arrangements and interment in Elmwood Cemetery were under the direction of Mallett Funeral Home of Wagoner.
