Fred Michaels, 93 of Junction City, formerly of Lyndon, Kan. died Friday, Dec 10, 2010, under hospice care in the Serenity Room at the Geary Community Hospital in Junction City, A visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec 13, 2010, at the First Presbyterian Church, 113 W. Fifth St. A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec 14, 2010, at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. Burial will follow at Lyndon Cemetery.

He was born on March 21, 1917 in Scranton, KS to Thomas Lawrence Michaels and Jane Dunn. Preceding him in death were his parents and his sisters Gertrude Blackburn, Dorothy Abend, and Wilma Cranwell. He married Lucile Larsen on April 25, 1947 in Topeka, Kansas. He is survived by his wife, Lucile, of the Sterling House in Junction City: a daughter, Deanna Munson and husband Charles of Junction City; a grandson, David Munson and his wife Laura; a granddaughter; Michelle Munson Simu and her husband Serban; a great-grandson, Aidan Simu; and a sister Loraine Simon of Mankato, Kansas.

Fred, a retired Farmer/Stockman in Osage County, prided himself in prioritizing farm tasks to produce excellent crops and high quality livestock. He particularly enjoyed sharing conversations with his son in law and grandson who have similar interests.

Fred enjoyed outdoor activities including hunting with friends and relatives, and fishing with Wife Lucile, Daughter Deanna and Grandchildren David and Michelle. Also special were card parties with neighbors, friends, and members of his card club. Many pleasant times were spent attending community, school, and church activities of his daughter's, grandchildren and special friends' children. He may have had only one daughter and two grandchildren but he also served the role of grandpa to close friends. He particularly enjoyed his unique bond with his bird dogs, pets, cattle, and other farm animals. For 63 years, almost everything he did found Lucile by his side whether it was waiting in the truck while he conducted farm work or while they enjoyed leisure activities. Thanks to his daughter Deanna, he became an avid Kansas State University, Wildcat fan and thanks to her marriage to Chuck all the Munson family became his second family. A long awaited great grandson arrived one week prior to his death. He farmed his life with his father. After his father's death, he moved his mother next door in a mobile home until her death. His immediate family including his sisters and their husbands and all his nieces and nephews completed the bonds that were his life.
