Funeral services in memory of Dora Brockshus were held at St. John's Lutheran Church in May City Thursday afternoon, March 28. Rev. Allen Brutlag officiated. Burial was at the Harrison Township Cemetery near May City, with the Baumgarten Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
The casket bearers were Duane Kooistra, Glen Brockshus, Keigh Brockshus, Alvin Groff, Roger Brockshus, Bruce Brockshus, Allen Brockshus, Donald Groff, and Norbert Groff.
Dorthea Elizabeth Brockshus, the daughter of Peter and Christina Jessen Boernsen, was born March 6, 1891, in Plymouth County, now Remsen, Iowa. She attended school near her childhood home.
She was united in marriage to Henry Brockshus at her parents' home on March 27, 1913. They became the parents of six children and farmed for many years in the May City area.
Dora was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church at May City, a charter member of the Ladies Aid and enjoyed several activities including gardening, flowers, and quilt making.
She passed away at the hospital in Spencer on March 25, 1885, at the age of 94. Preceding her in death were her parents and one son, Vernon; one sister, Minnie; four brothers; Emil, August, John, William; and one grandson, Robert.
Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Mrs. Albert (Meta) Groff of May City and Mrs. Joe (Erna) Kooistra of Sheldon; three sons: John and Herbert of Ocheyedan and Marvin of Hartley; twenty grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, one brother, Henry Boernsen of Hartley as well as other relatives and friends.
