HICKORY - Eula Mae Austin Bowman, 100, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, at Lutheran Home-Hickory West. Born May 5, 1910, in Caldwell County, she was the oldest daughter of the late Jonas Partee Austin Sr. and Oma Elizabeth Hall Austin. Mrs. Bowman was a member of Shiloh Lutheran Church and a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 and one-half years, Fred Douglas Bowman; son, Ned Lawson Bowman; grandson, Mark Leland Bowman; daughters-in-law, Linda S. Bowman and Janice S. Bowman; brothers, McCoy, Arthur, Willard, Garland, Gerald and Roy Austin; sisters, Irene Starnes, Louella Bowman, Kay Nell Austin and an infant sister. She is survived by her children, daughter-in-law Mildred D. Bowman of Taylorsville, Ruth Elizabeth Bolick and husband, Howard, of Hickory, Barbara Ann Sipe and husband, Wayne, of Hickory, Delma Jean Martin and husband, Terry, of Lenoir, Douglas Terry Bowman and fiancee, Gilda Lowman, of Hickory, Jerry Wayne Bowman and wife, Sandie, of Taylorsville, and Alice Elaine Whisnant and husband, James, of Granite Falls; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a large number of nieces and nephews. A celebration of Eula's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at Shiloh Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Shiloh Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends today, Friday, Jan. 7, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Shiloh Lutheran Church Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shiloh Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 1011 Shiloh Church Road, Hickory, N.C. 28601.
