Edward R. Wakefield Sr., 56, of Ugstad Road in Hermantown died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, in his home, of natural causes, with his family at his side.
He was born Feb. 24, 1943, in Duluth to Harold and Catherine (Pero) Wakefield. He was a 1961 graduate of Central High School. Ed married Phyllis Perrault on Nov. 17, 1962, in Duluth. He was a longshoreman working out of the Longshoreman's Union Local 1366. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid stock car racing fan.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Gnesen, and the Army National Guard. He was a former member of the Teamsters Union.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold; a son, Jimmy; and brothers Henry and William.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; sons Edward Jr. and Steven, both of Duluth; his mother, Catherine Wakefield of Duluth; brothers Harold Jr. ''Corky'' (Bonnie), Michael and Bob (Mary), all of Duluth; a sister, Cheryl (Gary) Hann of Duluth; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; grandchildren Amber, Dylan, Brooke, Zachary, Aaron, Mariah and Erica; many nieces and nephews; and a longtime friend, John Chiovitti.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. today with a 6:30 p.m. wake prayer service in Williams-Lobermeier Funeral Home, and from 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial Monday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Gnesen. Burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Gnesen. Family prefers memorials in lieu of flowers. Arrangements by Williams-Lobermeier Funeral Home, Duluth.
