Harold William Wakefield Sr., 77, Rice Lake Road, died Tuesday, July 23, 1996, in Chris Jensen Nursing Home.
He was born in Duluth and had been a lifelong resident. He served in the Army during World War II. He had worked as a longshoreman. He also was a city bus driver for many years.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Gnesen and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He also served as a volunteer at the West End Senior Center.
His parents were Dudley and Lucy Wakefield. A son, Henry, died previously.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine of Duluth; four sons, William R., Edward R. Sr., and Robert W., all of Hermantown, and Harold Jr. and Donald M., both of Duluth; a daughter, Cheryl M. Hann of Duluth; three brothers, Edward of Couer d'Alene, Idaho, and Vernon and Harry, both of Duluth; a sister, Esther Edwards of Chicago; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. today, with 6 p.m. wake prayers, in the Dougherty Funeral Home in Duluth. Visitation will continue from 10:30 until the 11 a.m. services Thursday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Gnesen. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
