Mother Q. M. Sharp Dies at San Angelo
Q. M. Sharp returned home Monday from San Angelo where he was called by the death of his venerable mother, Mrs. Mary Evans Sharp.
Her funeral was held Sunday. She had been ill for some time, Mr. Sharp having been called to her bedside some weeks ago. He returned home then as her condition was improved.
Mrs. Sharp was nearly 83 years old. She was born August 19, 1847 and came to Texas in 1849, her parents settling in Fayette county. In 1860 the family moved to Gonzales county. She was married to Hiram Sharp in October, 1865.
To this union were born 12 children all living to be grown.
Of the twelve, ten survive her. Mrs. Sharp leaves 75 descendants including besides the ten children, 42 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren. Fifty two descendants attended her funeral.
Her husband who was one of the fine old soldiers of the Southland, preceded her to the great beyond two years ago.
Mrs. Sharp was a devoted wife and mother, a noble Christian for many years, making profession and uniting with the Methodist church when but 10 years of age. Thus she was a member of the church for 72 years, an unusual record.
Mrs. Sharp spent much time in Gonzales on various occasions with her son, Q. M. Sharp, and the late Mrs. Sharp. During that time she made numerous warm friends who grew to love and esteem her very deeply. While they are saddened to learn of her passing, they feel she has entered into the life triumphant where a rich reward is hers after a long and exceptionally useful service on earth.
