Q. M. Sharp, Wealthy Cotton Buyer Dies at Home on Sat.

Funeral Held Sunday for Man Who Made Fortune In Cotton Buying

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon for Q. M. Sharp, wealthy, retired cotton buyer, who died at his home here Saturday afternoon at 4:30. Burial was in the Masonic cemetery.
Sharp who's estate was estimated to be worth from fifty to ninety thousand dollars, had been in failing health for some time and died after an illness that kept him confined to his bed four weeks. He came to Gonzales in 1900 and for many years was engaged in tje business of buying cotton, but retired several years ago after amassing a considerable fortune and substantial real estate holdings.
Sharp was born October 26, 1866, in Fayette county a son of Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Sharp. His wife was killed eleven years ago in a tragic automobile accident at Nixon. Surviving are four sisters and four brothers: Mr. J. S. Clements, Copperas Cove; Mrs. Bessie Tuttle, Spearman; Mrs.Ira Gladsock; Big Lake; Mrs.Dee Wood, Sonora; T.W.Sharp, Fort Worth; H. E. Sharp, Eldorado; H. V. Sharp, Del Rio; J. A. L. Sharp, San Angelo; besides numerous nieces and nephews.Allof the brothers were present for the funeral, with the exception of H. V.Sharp of Del Rio and T.W.Sharp of Fort Worth, who were unable to be present.
The service widely attended by friends and loved ones, were held from the Robertson and Seydler Chapel, with Rev. Kenneth C. Minter, pastor of the First Methodist church, officiating. Following the chapel services the remains were taken in charge by members of the Gonzales Masonic Lodge and were interred with the impressive ritual of the Masonic order.
The deceased was a member of the Gonzales Methodist church, he and Mrs.Sharp having united with the church when first coming to Gonzales in 1900. He was a member of Gonzales Lodge No.30, A. F. and A.M. and also of the higher branches of the order.
Active pallbearers were: M.S. Spooner, Hugh Ramsay, Jim Wood, Jim Scheske, Joe Dawe, Charles Holmes, Horace Wood, and Robert Miller. Honorary pallbearers were his many intimate friends.
