H. W. ALMACK
Many friends throughout the county were greatly grieved to learn of the sudden death of H. W. Almack, of this city, which occurred at the G. B. Wright residence where he and his family made their home, on Friday evening, Dec. 15, 1911, at the age of sixty years and three months. He had been in usual health but in the afternoon was stricken with hemorrhage of the brain, and lived but a few hours.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. W. G. Hohanshelt, pastor of the M. E. church, were held at the Newbern church on Monday forenoon at eleven o'clock, after which interment took place in the Newbern cemetery.
Harvey Warner Almack was born near Jericho in Cochocton county, Ohio, on Sept. 15, 1851. He was married in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, on June 4, 1869, to Miss Arena Butler, who survives him. Twelve children were born to them, eight of whom are living. Three died in infancy and one son, Earl, died at the age of eleven years.
Those who survive are Mrs. Nellie Bellamy, of near Knoxville; Roll Almack, of Portland, Oregon; Mrs. Gertrude Grimes, of near Melrose; Mrs. Lora Rochelle, of Valley Junction; Mrs. Ida M. Barger, of Chariton, Mrs. Ethel Jones, of near Albia, H. Willis Almack, of Lincoln, Nebr.; Miss Edna Almack, of Chariton. Seven grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters are also living.
In 1881 Mr. Almack and family came to Iowa from near Jericho, Ohio, and located on a farm one mile northeast of Newbern, residing there until April, 1902, when he moved to Monroe county, seven miles north of Melrose, where he lived until a year ago. During the past year he went to several different places in the hope of recovering his health which had become impaired. He came to Chariton a few months ago.
About 21 years ago Mr. Almack was converted at Newbern under the pastorate of Rev. Carl Brown, and united with the M. E. church, of which he remained a consistent member until his death.
He was a man of upright character, genial disposition, kind and devoted to his family, and enjoyed the high regard of all who knew him. He had a large circle of friends who will learn of his demise with deep regret and who will extend sincere sympathy to the sorrowing relatives who survive.
