Martha Nelson, 98, of 9819 Road, died at 11:36pm Jan. 1, 2011, at her home.

She was born Jan. 25, 1912, in Ottumwa to Cleff and Olive Vest Giltner. She married Harold B. Nelson Dec. 2, 1934. He preceded her in death on Jan. 4, 1988.

A graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1930, she had worked as a nurse's aide at the Ottumwa Hospital and at the Jefferson Square Manor.

She loved to work in her flowerbeds and feed the birds regularly.

Surviving are a daughter, Shirley(Chuck)Townsley of Ottumwa; three sons, Seth Wayne Nelson of Brownsburg, Ind., Steve(Dianne)Nelson of Roswell, Ga., and Scott Nelson of Ottumwa; five grandchilddren, Bill, Brad, Teresa, Lori Ann and Chris; four great-grandchildren, Adam, Luke, Megan and Courtney; and a sister, Eloise Elsensohn of Agency.

She was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Shelby and Kimberly; a sister, Claire Goering; two brothers, Sam and Frank Giltner.

Funeral services will be 10:30am Thursday at Agency United Methodist Church with Rev. Bud Lane officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 10am Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8pm Wednesday. Memorials may be made to Hospice at 927 E. Pennsylvania Ave. Ottumea, Iowa 52501.
