LAWNDALE - Mrs. Lorene Spurling Dixon, 95, of 5415 Fallston Road, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 26, 1913, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late William Buford Spurling and Clara Gantt Spurling. She retired from Burns High School, where she worked in the cafeteria. She was a member of Kadesh United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Belwood Extension Homemakers Club. Mrs. Dixon had a love for little children and she graciously gave of her time teaching Sunday school at Kadesh United Methodist Church as well as babysitting in her home.
In addition to her parents, husband, Monroe Claude Dixon; a daughter, Catherine Echeverri; a grandson, Michael Echeverri; two brothers, W.B. Spurling Jr. and Harold Spurling; and two sisters, Thelma Dixon and Margaret Smith preceded her in death.
Mrs. Dixon is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Vickie Dixon of Belwood; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Whitworth and Barney Peeler of Belwood; a son-in-law, James Echeverri; a sister, Osteen Hendrick of Shelby; eight grandchildren, Chris Dixon, Amy Aspden, Tori Rose, Patrick Echeverri, Garry Peeler, Ben Peeler, Stacey Glover and Michael Black; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation: The family will receive friends tonight at Stamey Funeral Home from 6 to 8.
Funeral: Saturday at 11 a.m. at Kadesh United Methodist Church
Burial: Kadesh United Methodist Church Cemetery
