Lawrence Coates, the son of William Harvey Coates and Zena Burnett, was born on September 26, 1900 in Edmonson County, Kentucky. He was the husband of Rosaline V. Gideon, the daughter of David Gideon and Abbey Walton. She was born on January 20, 1909. She preceded him in death on September 25, 1984. She was buried in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Leitchfield, Grayson County, Kentucky. At the time of her death she was survived by her husband Lawrence Coates and their children: one daughter, Deloris Harrell, of Leitchfield; four sons, Lawrence David and Arnold Coates both of Louisville, Ronald of Leitchfield and Arthur Coates of Indiana. Also surviving her were 19 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Lawrence Coates died on September 3, 1987. He was buried with his wife, Rosaline V. Coates, in the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Leitchfield.
