COATES, LAWRENCE D. "LARRY," 79, of south Louisville, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center Louisville surrounded by family and friends.

Born in Leitchfield, KY, he was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Rosalyn Coates. Larry was a US Army veteran and served during the Korean conflict.

He was survived by his wife of 54 years, the former Barbara Johnson, and his children, David (Leslie), Bill (Kathy), Eddie (Sandy) and Patricia, also by his brothers, Arnold, Ronald, Arthur and sister Delores and by 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Per his final wishes, Larry donated his body to University of Louisville Medical School. A memorial service will be held in his honor at Nunnelley Funeral Home, 4327 Taylor Blvd., on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with visitation starting after 11 a.m. Masonic Rites and Military Honors will be provided.

Expressions of sympathy may go to Hospice of Louisville.
