Ray was born in Chicago, IL. May 26, 1932 to Jean and Ernestine Miller Akers. He married Joyce Aarup on September 21, 1951. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his daughter, Pamela Akers-Wilson, his brother Jay Akers and his sister, Beatrice J. Akers-Lawson. Ray served in the Illinois National Guard.
Ray was a service manager with Certified Equipment Company, then with Hoener Equipment Company and then retiring from Pemco Equipment Company. Ray enjoyed racing and was a sponsor of his brother Jay's race car. He was an avid bowler and golfer.
Surviving are his children; Linda (fiancée' Harvey Frakes) David Akers (companion Christine Clem), Lori Akers (Gary Dolloff), and Glen Akers, grandchildren; Dustin (Sylvia) Cook, Jerry Akers, Matthew Dolloff and Pamela Dolloff, a great granddaughter, Summer Cook, several nieces and nephews, and his dog, Coco.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch & Son Funeral Home 505 E. Allen where visitation will be on Sunday December 26, 2010 from 2-4 pm with additional visitation on Monday December 27, 2010 from 9:00 am until time of funeral services at the funeral home at 10:00 am. Rev. John Miller will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
