SUDDEN DEATH OF MRS. WM. ROGERS
Mrs. Wm. Rogers, of this city, passed away very suddenly last Saturday afternoon, April 4th, 1914, at about 5 o'clock. She had been a sufferer with heart trouble for several years, but had been in usual health recently and was able to be about.
On Saturday afternoon she walked to town, a distance of about five blocks, and while doing some shopping became ill and walked to the office of Dr. Brittell, where members of the family were summoned and where she expired in about an hour's time, death being due to acute edema of the lungs, caused by prolonged heart trouble.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Theodore H. Aszman, were held at the First Presbyterian church on Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Chariton cemetery. The services were attended by the Knights and Ladies of Security, of which she was a member, and by the United Mine Worker's Union.
Madie Allison was born in Nashville, Brown county, Indiana, on January 22nd, 1874. She was married there to Mr. Wm. Rogers on June 13th, 1892. That same year they moved to Lincoln, Neb., where they resided two years. They have since resided at Beatrice, Neb., Mendota and Novinger, Mo., Hocking and Albia, Iowa, coming to Chariton last fall, where they have since made their home.
Mrs. Rogers is survived by her husband and four children, Mrs. Glennie Hoover, George, Gladys and Theodore Rogers, and one little grandchild, Esther May Hoover, all of this city. One brother and three sisters are also living and reside in Indiana, none of whom could be present at the last sad rites.
Mrs. Rogers was a good, Christian woman, a devoted wife and mother, a kind neighbor and friend, and was held in high esteem by all who knew her. Her sudden death was a great shock to her family and other relatives, who will have the deep sympathy of the entire community.
