Rev. John W. Sowell, 81, of Seminole, Fla. died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006.
Rev. Sowell was born in Bradley, was a long-time resident of Pensacola and had resided in Seminole for the past 11 years.
He was an ordained minister of the Assemblies of God for the past 50 years and had pastored churches in Tennessee, Alabama and Florida. He was the founding pastor of Pine Forest Assembly of God Church in Pensacola. He was retired but had returned to the staff of the church for the past 10 years.
He is survived by his wife, Vernell "Susie" Sowell; one daughter, Martha (Sonny) Sowell Hinson of Decatur; three sons, Michael "Mike" (Cheryl) Sowell of Excel; Bill Sowell of Jacksonville, Fla. and Mark Anthony (Jean) Sowell of Seminole; one sister, Lois Ellis; three brothers, Grady Sowell, Cecil Sowell and Joe (Buddy) Sowell; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday, Dec. 27 at 2 p.m. in the Pine Forest Assembly of God Church with Rev. Avon Fowler, Pastor Gene Hudson and Rev. Bobby Thompson officiating. Burial followed in the Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
