Clara R. (Shellhammer) Smith of Binghamton

Clara R. Smith, 93, of Binghamton, went to be with the Lord Sunday evening, January 4, 2009, at the Susquehanna Nursing Center. She was predeceased by her husband, George W. Smith; three sisters, Minnie Richey, Ethel Rhapp, and Helen Labovsky; three brothers, Joseph, Edward, and Arthur Shellhammer.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law; a grandson and his wife; two greatgrandchildren; also, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was a member of High Street United Methodist Church, Binghamton.

Clara had worked in several local restaurants, 6 years at Broome Developmental Center as a foster grandparent, and 15 years at Binghamton High School assisting students with special needs. She was an active resident at Woodburn Court for over 30 years, enjoyed card games, bus trips, and talking with her friends.

Funeral services will be held at the J.F.

Rice Funeral Home, 150 Main Street, Johnson City, Thursday at 1 1 a.m. The Rev. Ann S. Blair, Pastor of her church, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverhurst Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial contributions to the High Street United Methodist Church, 1290 Vestal Binghamton, N.Y. 13903, in Clara R. Smith's memory.
