Helen M Northrup
Dies at age of 91

Helen Matilda Lenfest was born in Knox county (sic), Maine, November 22, 1837 and peacefully passed to her eternal home, May 14, 1929, aged 91 years, 5 months and 22 days.

She was the last of a family of thirteen children, five boys and eight girls, one sister living to the age of 97 years.

On August 22, 1858. she was united in marriage to Joab Boynton. To this union were born two sons, Herman and Augustus.

In December 1865, she was left alone with her two sons.

She was married to Daniel J Northrup in December 1868, who shared with her life's battles until November 12, 1884. Since this time she has lived with her two sons and daughter-in-law, on the farm just east of town.

Early in life she accepted Christ as her Saviour, first uniting with the Free Will Baptist church, but after moving to Nebraska she united with the Edgar Methodist church (sic) of which she has been a beloved and faithful members. (sic)

As long as she was physically able she was found regularly in the place of worship, gladly doing her share in all church activities.

The missionary cause and the cause of temperance were branches of work which appealed to her in a special way.

While Mrs Northrup lived nd enjoyed a common-place life she was interested in passing events and all reforms of the present day.

Early in January she suffered an attack of the flu from which she never fully recovered and about two weeks ago symptoms of an alarming nature developed, but it was only last Sunday that Grandma Northrup, as we loved to call her, took to her bed.

Then followed two days and nights of intense suffering, during which time willing hands and loving hearts ministered to her.

Then came the message: "It is enough. Come up higher. Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord."

Mrs Northrup was identified with the early history of Clay county (sic) and came here when settlers were few and far between, She was a lovable character and friendliness and kindliness were ever her attitude toward mankind. She will be missed.

She leaves to mourn her going, two sons, Herman and Augustus, and one step-daughter, Mrs Vesta Beck and five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren

Funeral services were held from the Methodist church (sic) Thursday, May 16, at 2:30, conducted by the pastor, Rev Fred H. Johnson.

Interment was made in the Edgar cemetery.

The community extends it sympathy to the sorrowing ones.
