LAKE BENTON - Services for Howard Krog, 88, of Lake Benton will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church in Lake Benton. Visitation is from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, with prayers at 6:30, at the church. Burial will be at a later date. Hartquist Funeral Home, Utoft-Johansen Chapel in Lake Benton is providing the arrangements.

He died Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Howard Arthur Krog was born May 22, 1922, to Johan and Hanne (Thomsen) Krog on the family farm in Diamond Lake Township, rural Lake Benton He was baptized and confirmed at Diamond Lake Lutheran Church. He received his education in country school District 16 through the eighth grade. Following his education he worked on the family farm and helping his neighbors. He was united in marriage to Bernice Yonker on June 29, 1947 at Diamond Lake Lutheran Church. Their union was blessed with three children, Jerry, Rebecca, and Deanna, and 63 years of marriage together. Howard was a dairy farmer until 1968 and had been awarded as a premier dairyman from DHIA. In 1970, he partnered with his son, Jerry, in farming and in 1971 they began raising Simmental cattle and dealing seeds for Pioneer. He helped organize the Minnesota Simmental Cattle Association and served as secretary-treasurer. In 1981, the family was named "Cattlemen of the Year." He retired from dealing seeds in 1992 and retired from farming in 2002. Howard was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Lake Benton and had served on the church council. He also served on the Tyler Hospital Board. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, golfing, and traveling to visit family and friends.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Bernice of Lake Benton; children, Jerry (and Beverly) Krog of Lake Benton, Rebecca (and Michael) Alderman of Oregon City, Ore., and Deanna (and Richard) Rochel of Carbondale, Colo.; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Norman, Arnold, Leon, and Margaret Ann. Blessed be his memory!
