Leon H. Krog, age 85 of Tyler passed away Friday, July 24, 2009 at Divine Providence Health Center in Ivanhoe. Memorial Services will be held at Diamond Lake Church, rural Lake Benton at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 21. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. The Tyler Area Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be sent at www.tylerareafuneralhome.com.

Leon H. Krog was born February 26, 1924 at his parents' home in Diamond Lake Township to Johan and Hanne (Thompsen) Krog. He was baptized and confirmed at Diamond Lake Church. He attended District #16 country school and the Morris Ag School. He entered the US Navy January 31, 1944, served in the Pacific Theatre on the USS Tabberer, a destroyer escort and was honorably discharged on May 22, 1946. He married Estelle Lee on February 10, 1945. Four sons were born to this union. He farmed until 1983. Leon was united in marriage to Doreen Olsen on October 28, 1983. They moved to Brookings where he worked at ABC Lumber, and in 1985 they moved to Lake Benton and lived on the shores of Lake Benton. Leon worked at Ramsdell's and Tyler Lumber Company, retiring in 2005. He and Doreen then moved to Tyler. In September, 2008 Leon entered the Hendricks Hospital after suffering a stroke. In November he was transferred to the Ivanhoe nursing home, where he remained until his death. Through the years Leon served on the Lake Benton School Board, Lincoln County Soil and Conservation Board, the Lincoln County draft board, Lincoln County Coop Oil Board, Henry Sollie Post #10 and served as American Legion commander. He enjoyed birding, fishing, hunting, watching football, baseball and basketball.

Leon is survived by his wife Doreen of 25 years; children: Steve (Sharon) Krog, Kevin Krog, Marty (Pam) Krog, Monte (Lynn) Krog, Allen (Melanie) Olsen, and Trevor Krog; grandchildren: Kobe Krog, Jordan Olsen, Tor and Kiersten Krog, Zach Nordmeyer, Ike Krog, Kelly, Tess, Chase and Tara Krog; great-grandchild: Kenadi Weis; brother Howard (Bernice) Krog; mother-in-law Lorraine Olsen; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Lisa and Phil Myhrberg, Larry and Brenda Olsen, Leon and Ann Olsen, Carol and Marv Nissel and many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Johan and Hanne, brothers: Norman and Arnold, one sister Margaret Ann, nephew Colin Krog and father-in-law Arnold Olsen..
