A very detailed record of his early life can be found in the book written by his sister, E. B. Hayes (Mrs. Grayson Hayes). It is a biography of his sisters life but the first half is devoted to her childhood and family history. Excellent telling of Mecklenburg Co. / Union county history. The book is called GRAMFLAKES.
