Mr. Julian C. Himes, 82, of Silver Spring, formerly of Jefferson, died Thursday, Sept. 19, in Sterling, Va.
He was the husband of Margaret Little Himes of Frederick.
Born March 26, 1914, in Jefferson, he was a son of the late Albert and Lucy Corun Himes.
Mr. Himes worked in the U.S. Army Intelligence before his discharge in 1941. He then worked for the U.S. Maritime Administration in Washington, D.C., retiring in 1970 as chief of security and administration. He received the Silver Medal Award for outstanding lifetime service. After retiring he owned and operated the Jewelry by Julian jewelry and antique watch business in Silver Spring for nearly 25 years.
He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Silver Spring, and the Knights of Columbus Rosensteel Council. He was also a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors and a certified appraiser with the Gemological Appraisal Association.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, James Himes of Annapolis and John Himes of Sterling, Va.; a daughter, Nancy Himes Dusza of Monrovia; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Himes and Guilford Himes, both of Frederick; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, at the Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd., Silver Spring. A mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 10103 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, with the Rev. Robert Mordino as celebrant. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Missionaries of Charity, 3310 Wheeler Road S.E., Washington, D.C. 20032.
