Mr. Guilford S. Himes, age 95 of Frederick, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2015. For 74 years, he was the devoted husband of Eloise A. (Twentey) Himes. Born on September 13, 1919 at home in Jefferson, MD, he was the son of the late Albert H. and Lucy (Corum) Himes, and the last survivor of their 10 children.

Mr. Himes was a 1938 graduate of Frederick High School. He served in the Army during WWII in the South Pacific with the 593rd Engineer's Brigade. Following his tour in the Army he continued working for the federal government at Fort Detrick in the accounting department, retiring in 1979 after 34 total years of service. He was a lifelong member of the VFW serving as a quartermaster. In his retirement he enjoyed traveling, yard work and gardening.

Mr. Himes was the father of Patricia Burns and husband Larry of Ijamsville, Vicki Gadberry and husband Eric of Silver City, NM, and Jeff Himes and wife Anne of Boonsboro, the grandfather of Scott Burns, Lori Wilhelm and Hannah and Andrew Himes, and the great-grandfather of Ashlea, Michael, Alexa, and Mason Wilhelm.

A graveside service will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 515 S. Market St., Frederick on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at 2 PM. Rev. Harry C. Cole will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mr. Himes' name to Calvary United Methodist Church, 131 W. 2nd St., Frederick, MD 21701 or to the charity of your choice .
