George Robert Himes, 87, of Jefferson formerly of Westminster, died Oct. 7, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Born Sept. 5, 1917, in Jefferson, he was the son of the late Albert and Lucy Himes.

He was the husband of the late Charlotte G. Himes who died Sept. 27, 2002.

Before retiring, he worked for Super Fresh and Weis supermarkets. He was a veteran of World War II.

He enjoyed playing cards, bingo, horses and dogs.

He is survived by son and daughter-in-law Stephen and Moana Himes of Jefferson; brother Guilford Himes of Frederick; grandchildren Valerie Anne Turner and husband Cullen, and Stephen Himes, all of Mount Airy.

He was preceded in death by son, George Robert Himes, Jr. in 1980.

Funeral services and interment will be private. Arrangements were handled by Fletcher Funeral Home, Westminster.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Citizens Nursing Home, 1900 Rosemont Ave., Frederick, MD 21701.
