Martin J. Baier, 85, of Garden City, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.

He was born Jan. 13, 1925, in Holcomb, to Joseph and Monica Unrein Baier.

On Aug. 4, 1952, he married Wilma M. Gottschalk in Garden City.

Mr. Baier worked for 37 years for Machine Supply in Garden City, retiring in 1990. He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church of Garden City and the Knights of Columbus, served as a Boy Scout leader for many years, coached the Garden City Blues Baseball team for several years and enjoyed fishing. He served in the U.S. Army from January 1949 to February 1950.

In addition to his wife, survivors include five sons, Gary L. and Rodney A. Baier, both of Garden City, Timothy G. Baier of Augusta, Mark A. Baier of Council Grove, and Michael L. Baier of Holcomb; two daughters, Monica Galliart and her husband, Scott, of Lake Waukomis, Mo., and Wendy Pollman and her husband, Brett, of Wichita; three brothers, Ray Baier of Garden City, Victor Baier of Colwich, and Joe Baier of Kismet; three sisters, Irene Patton of Scott City, Barb Hunter of Salina, and Anne Hoover of Blue Springs, Mo.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Kuhlman; and a daughter-in-law, Kimberly Baier.

Rosary was at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. Funeral Mass was at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City. Military graveside services were at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Garden City.
