Raymond A. Baier, 84, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at his home in Garden City. He was born Oct. 23, 1929, in Chicago, to Joseph and Monica Unrein Baier.

He graduated from Holcomb High School. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict, Mr. Baier returned to Finney County and was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church of Garden City, and a past commander and life member of John J. Haskell VFW Post No. 2279.

He enjoyed fishing, dancing and golf and for 17 years was involved with the Perpetual Adoration at St. Catherine Hospital Chapel on Fridays.

On Oct. 18, 1997, he married Elizabeth A. Lang in Garden City. She survives.

Other survivors include four stepdaughters, Loretta Lang, Elaine and husband John Becker, Carol Wright and Tina Lang, all of Garden City; a stepson, Kenneth and wife Palla Lang of Garden City; two brothers, Victor and wife Kay Baier of Colwich, and Joseph Baier of Kismet; two sisters, Ann and husband Duane Hoover of Blue Springs, Mo., and Barbara and husband Gerald Hunter of Salina; nine stepgrandchildren; and 20 stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Martin Baier; and two sisters, Mary Kuhlman and Irene Patton.

Vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Garden City with graveside rites conducted. Visitation hours are 4 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City.
