Mrs. M. A, Cook, aged 74 years, died at her home near Pickaway, this county, on Saturday, October 5, 1907, at about 11 o'clock am. She had been in failing health for some time and about 6 o'clock Friday morning suffered a stroke of paralysis from which she did not recover. Mrs. Cook was a most excellent Christian lady, highly esteemed by a large circle of friends and acquaintances. For many years she was a member of the Reform Presbyterian church, but for some time past had been a member of the Hilldale Presbyterain church.
Deceased was the mother of twelve children, nine of whom survive her. Those living are: George Cook, of Charleston; Andy Patton and Walter Cook, who live at the home place at Pickaway; Dr. T. G. Cook of Academy; John Cook of Dawson; Owen Cook, of near Spencer; L. N. Cook, of Alderson, and Mrs. R. C. Hogsett of Second Creek, this county. She is also survived by two sisters and one brother, Mrs. J. O. Miller of Gap Mills, Mrs. Harvey Young of Marlinton, and Dr. G. M. Nickell, of Millsboro, Va. Her husband died about eight years ago. All the children attended the funeral except Mr. Owen Cook who was away from home and could not be located in time. The funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. Campbell, and the interment was at the Lebanon church burying grounds. - Advertiser
