PORTSMOUTH - William Thomas (Willie) Hitchings, 76, of 1532 Crawford Parkway died Saturday at 1:25 in a hospital.

A native of Norfolk, he was a son of Harry N. and Mrs. Virginia DeHart Hitchings and the husband of Mrs. Minnie Burton Hitchings.

He was a member of Gosport Barracks 1527 of Veterans of World War I, an Army veteran of World War I, and a retired Norfolk Naval Shipyard machinist.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, William T. Hitchings of San Antonio, Te., A.L. Hitchings of Chesapeake, and E. T. Hitchings of Williamsburg; two daughters, Mrs. Frances Fields of Marshall and Mrs. Arthur Russell of Silver Springs, Md.; three brothers, Edward Hitchings of La Plata, Md., Frank Hitchings of Blue Ridge, and Harry N. Hitchings of Chesapeake; four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Reiter of Wilmington, Del., Mrs. Hattie Cahoon and Mrs. Ada Yates of Norfolk, and Mrs. Irene Gregory of Ohio; 10 grandchildren; and thee great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. in Sturtevant Funeral Chapel by the Rev. William T. Evans. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
