The son of Levi Harrod, Jr. and Rebecca Burge. Jacob married Rachel Biggs on 09 Jan 1823. Together they had (at least) five children: Perry, James, John, Lydia (Pipes), and Levi Harrod.

After the death of Rachel, Jacob married Mary Adrian on 02 Aug 1838. Mary was the widow of Mordicai Adrian, and Jacob Harrod raised her two children, Mordicai Jr. and Catherine Adrian (Rolstone).
