He was a native of Statesboro, and made his home in Clyo and Thomaston. He retired from Union Camp Corporation after thirty-six years. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, and was a member of the Uvalda Baptist Church. His love was gardening and simply watching it grow. He was known by many for the vegetables he harvested.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hudson and Wilma Akins Donaldson, his sisters, Francis Wilson (#88039149) and Mary McBride, niece Jan Wilson (#88039244), nephew Tony Truett, and his father and mother in law, Green and Grace Thigpen.
Mr. Donaldson is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Shelby Jean Thigpen Donaldson of Uvalda; two daughters, Brenda Donaldson Morris and husband Roy of Lakeland, Florida and Tonya Donaldson Anderson of Uvalda; one grandson, Graham Morris of Tallahassee, Florida; two brothers, Robert Donaldson and wife June of Statesboro and Charles Ellis and wife Wanda of Swainsboro; two brothers in law, Douglas Wilson of Perry and Arnold McBride of Statesboro; uncle, John Akins and wife June of Atlanta, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 30th at 11:00 am in the Uvalda Baptist Church with Reverend Adrian Bell officiating. Interment will follow in the Uvalda City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday Evening from 6:00 until 8:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Georgia Baptist Children's Home, 9420 Blackshear Hwy. SE, Baxley, GA 31513.
