David A. Baker Died In Illinois Last Week.
David A. Baker, former Cresco township farmer, died Friday, December 20, 1929, at the home of his son, David, Jr., in Garden Prairie, Illinois at the age of seventy-four years and five months. Mr. Baker came to Kossuth county with his mother when he was eight years old. His first wife was a sister of F. H. Shackelford. Their son, Azil, now resides in Washington state and was unable to attend the funeral.
Mr. Baker sold his Cresco farm nineteen years ago and moved to Minnesota, where he farmed. When he was a young man he had both legs injured in a hay press which brought on rheumatism, compelling him to give up farming. He then lived in Algona for a number of years. He remarried and became the father of five sons: Carl of Burt; Andrew and Myron, of Mason City; Dewey, of Albia, Iowa; and David, Jr., of Garden Prairie, Illinois. Mr. Baker's wife is still living. Besides his wife and sons, Mr. Baker leaves to mourn a sister, Mrs. M. de L. Parsons of Algona and a brother, William, of Kanawha. The funeral was held Wednesday, January 1, in the Baptist church of Algona, Rev. F. H. Webster officiating. The burial was made in the Irvington cemetery.
