J. T. Brown Dies; Services Thursday
John T. (Tom) Brown, Sr., 88, retired farmer of the Parkburg Community died Tuesday evening at 8:30 after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Parkburg Baptist Church with Rev. Elven Hensley and Rev. Eldon A. Byrd officiating. Burial, with Smith Funeral Home in charge, will be in the Church Cemetery.
Mr. Brown was born and raised in Hardeman County near the Ebenezer Community, son of the late Jesse Daniel Brown and Mary Catherine Brock Brown. He had resided in the Parkburg Community since 1922.
He was first married to Emeline Iverson and to this union four children were born, three of whom survive. After her death he was later married to Ora Ives and to this union twin sons were born, one of whom survive.
Mr. Brown was a member of the Parkburg Baptist Church and has served as Deacon for over 40 years and had been very active in all the church activities until his health failed. He was a member of the Extension Department of the church at the time of his death.
Survivors include three sons, Albert F. Brown of Bemis, Guy D. Brown of Parkburg and Rev. John T. Brown, Jr. of Memphis; a daughter, Mrs. Lois M. Cearley of Route 3, Jackson; two sisters, Mrs. Lavenia Pickens of Bemis, and Mrs. Floy Williams of Alamo; nine grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
His body will be at the funeral home until the funeral hour.
Pallbearers to serve will be J. D. Butler, Howard Homesley, Alvin Davis, John Fussell, J. D. Pickens, and Milburn Pickens.
