ALONZO CLARK MCMILLAN
Was born in Pleasant Lake, Ind. October 27, 1847 and died in Angola Ind. Jan. 17, 1911. He was married to Jane Huss of Clyde, Ohio, in the autumn of 1876, and to them was born one son, Orville, now of Montpelier, Ohio. The wife died on Feb. 11, 1883. April 26, 1887, he was married to Dora Nisonger, and to them was born Hazel, now Mrs. Cleo Gibson of Angola: Gladys and Weir. All of these have done what they could to lighten the grief-laden hour. He had one brother, Orville, lost in the Civil War, and one sister, Elizabeth, who became Mrs., Horace VanAuken, who died Feb. 18, 1904. Thus passed the last of a kind and gentle family. What higher eulogy can be said? Mr. McMillan was not endowed with great strength, and for many months his patient suffering was very great.
Let us linger a moment e’er the last word is said. The easiest of all things is to admonish another: the difficult is to know thyself. The only perfect man was divine. Among all the imperfect is there one perfect? No not one. The word shall, therefore, never see the spectacle of the faultless man casting stones against his fellows? All life is measured by its goodness and so, kind brother, husband and dear father, we bid you peace and farewell.
