Elmena was the daughter of Daniel and Martha (Brown) Lucas and was born at Stockbridge, eight miles from Cazenovia, Madison County, New York. The exact date of her birth has not been determined, but most likely it was around 1793 or 4. Elmena had eight brothers and sisters: William, Andrew, Margaret, Caroline, Amanda (my great great grandmother), Daniel Jr, Archibald and Eleanor. Very little is known about Elmena. She married a man named Alvin Worden. They were married on a Sunday, but the exact date has not been determined. The story is told that Alvin went to his home on Monday for his belongings and was stricken with Cholera Morbus from eating cucumbers and died on Thursday. Four weeks later Elmena was dragged to death by falling from her saddle horse. She was twenty-four years of age. Their home was Conquest, New York. The date of death has not been verified; however, family tradition places her burial at the Conquest Village Cemetery located at Conqeust, Cayuga County, New York. It is assumed that her husband Alvin is also buried there. Their gravestones have not been located.
