From Holland St. John - "William was the eldest son of Daniel and Martha (Brown) Lucas and was born February 17, 1787 at Colrain, Franklin County, Massachusetts on the family farm. When a small boy he went with his parents to Cazenovia, Madison County, New York in the locality called "Pumpkinn Hollow" (Holler). It was at Stockbridge, New York. From there he went to Conquest, Cayuga County, New York. William had eight brothers and sisters: Andrew, Margaret, Elmena, Caroline, Amanda (my great-great grandmother), Daniel Lucas Jr., Archibald and Eleanor. He studied to be a doctor in Buffalo, New York. William married (1) Elizabeth "Betsey" Hall. She was the daughter of Nathan and Elsye (Miller) Hall. William and Betsey had two children: Lorenzo Dow and a daughter (name unidentified). After Betsey died around 1822, he married (2) Charlotte "Fanny" Graves. William and Fanny had three children: two boys (Volney and Stephan) and one daughter (name not known who married Charles Miller). He is said to have settled near Sandusky, Erie County, Ohio in 1845. He became noted in Western New York for his introduction and use of the steambox and hemlock boughs for the cure of "spotted fever." He was a soldier and served during the War of 1812 in the Battle of Erie. Where and when he died has not been determined, but most likely in Erie County, Ohio."
