Mary Lou Vollstedt, 79, of 333 Eighth St., died Thursday, Feb. 27, 1997, at Grancare Nursing Center, where she resided for less than a day.
She was born Aug. 28, 1917, in New Holstein, to Rudolph and Caroline Dumke Muenster. She married James H. Vollstedt on April 10, 1943, in Manitowoc. Mrs. Vollstedt and her husband moved to Fond du Lac in September of 1946.
She was an active member of Salem United Methodist Church. The Methodist Women of Salem recently honored her by giving a gift of money in her name to a church mission. After raising their children, she worked part-time as a secretary for the church and later for Dr. Waffle. She was a member of Church Women United and a former member of the Fond du Lac Civic Chorus. She also did solo work at the Christian Science Church and throughout the Fond du Lac area. She was an active volunteer for the American Cancer Society and was a cancer survivor for 17 years. She especially enjoyed family camping trips to Peninsula State Park, Door County.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Thomas and his wife Catherine of Wausau, Jeffrey and his wife Debra of Lomira and Steven and his wife Diane of Fond du Lac; one daughter, Barbara McDonald and her husband Richard of Minneapolis, Minn.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one sister, Trudy Brocker and her husband Milton of New Holstein.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one 1 sister.
Services: Funeral services will be held at 1 1 a.m. Monday at Salem United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mary Council Austin officiating. Burial will be at New Holstein Cemetery.
Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the church.
