Releaf was the fourth of six daughters born to William Whitcomb (1710–1742) and Hephzibah Sawyer (1708 – 1797), both of Worcester County, Massachusetts.
At age 16, Releaf married 24 year old William Oakes Sr. (also known as William Oak) on 27 May 1752 in Bolton, Worcester, Mass. They had nine children, one that died in infancy.
Widowed, Releaf married widower Samuel Patrick (or Fitzpatrick) on 4 Apr 1783 in Winchendon, Worcester, Mass. Samuel was a father to eight children, a prosperous farmer and town clerk of Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire. No children were born of this union.
