William, Jr. was the oldent of nine children born to William Oakes & Relief (Whitcomb).
He drowned in the spring flood of Miller's River near his home and in sight of his mother. Robert Moffat was in the boat with William and the two lads were buried side by side in the Old Central Burying Ground.
