Leonard Gerald Buchanan was born 11 Jul 1914 in Versailles, Ripley, Indiana and died 10 Dec 1999 in Columbus, Bartholomew, Indiana, he was the son of Charles Edward and Bessy "Betsy" Bullard Buchanan.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII military service in State January 13, 1942; Fort Bliss, Texas: Staten Island, New York; Camp Edwards; Massachusetts. Served Overseas October 1943; Returned Oct. 1945 served in European theatre at Corsica France. Rank while in U.S. Army; Anti-aircraft Artillery Private First Class. Discharge from the U.S. Army in October 1945 with honorable discharge, from Fort Knox, Kentucky. Army medals and rewards;he recieved three ribbons, purple heart and oak leaf cluster

He married Minnie Maxine Skinner 10 Nov 1945 and they were the parents to at least 10 children. He attended church at Rodney Separate Baptist church until around 1981. He then attended community Church of the Nazarene. He worked at Reeves Pulley in Columbus as a machine operator.
